Event and seasonal hydrologic connectivity patterns in an agricultural headwater catchment

چکیده

Abstract. Connectivity of the hillslope and stream is a non-stationary non-linear phenomenon dependent on many controls. The objective this study to identify these controls by examining spatial temporal patterns similarity between shallow groundwater soil moisture dynamics streamflow in Hydrological Open Air Laboratory (HOAL), small (66 ha) agricultural headwater catchment Lower Austria. We investigate responses 53 precipitation events seasonal streamflow, over 2 years. similarity, terms Spearman correlation coefficient, hysteresis index peak-to-peak time, shows clear organization, which best correlated with topographic position index, wetness depth table. greatest riparian zone diminishes further away from where table deeper. Soil show high but no pattern. This reflected low site characteristics. However, increases increasing rainfall duration. Groundwater connectivity scale higher than that event scale, indicating contributes more baseflow runoff.

Ecosystem processes at the watershed scale: Hydrologic vegetation gradient as an indicator for lateral hydrologic connectivity of headwater catchments

[1] Lateral water flow in catchments can produce important patterns in water and nutrient fluxes and stores and also influences the long-term spatial development of forest ecosystems. Specifically, patterns of vegetation type and density along hydrologic flow paths can represent a signal of the redistribution of water and nitrogen mediated by lateral hydrologic flow. This study explores the use...

Catchment Classification and Hydrologic Similarity

Hydrology does not yet possess a generally agreed upon catchment classification system. Such a classification framework should provide a mapping of landscape form and hydro-climatic conditions on catchment function (including partition, storage, and release of water), while explicitly accounting for uncertainty and for variability at multiple temporal and spatial scales. This framework would pr...

Seasonal changes in the character and nitrogen content of dissolved organic matter in an alpine/subalpine headwater catchment.

We are studying the chemical quality of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) in a high-elevation watershed in the Colorado Front Range. Samples were collected over the 2000 snowmelt runoff season at two sites across an alpine/subalpine ecotone to understand how the transition between the lightly vegetated alpine and forested reaches of the catchment influences the chemical character of DON. Samples...

Conditions in Agricultural Headwater Streams

11 Whilst the processes involved in the cycling of dissolved phosphorus (P) in rivers have been 12 extensively studied, less is known about the mechanisms controlling particulate P concentrations 13 during small and large flows. This deficiency is addressed through an analysis of large numbers of 14 suspended particulate matter (SPM) samples collected under baseflow (n = 222) and storm event (n...
